CDC Mainframe Computers

CDC 6600 in the background with Bryant disk drives, controllers and film recorder.

We are interested in CDC mainframe computers of yesteryear and sometimes have one running under emulation (using Tom Hunter's excellent DtCyber program). There are a few pages here relevant to CDC machines:

  • Why are these machines interesting? Here are some reasons.
  • If you are interested in an application which can run on such a beast, this page might be useful. It makes pretty-ish pictures ... albeit very slowly.
  • The second computer I ever used was a CDC 6600 at the University of London Computer Centre (U.L.C.C.). This page has some information about U.L.C.C. as it was in the late 1970's. (The first computer I ever used was a CTL Modular One ... there is almost no record I can find of that machine on the Web! Hmmm ... although it looks like Wikipedia now has a relevant article. I'm assuming the Olivetti Programma 101 doesn't count as a computer!)
